Along with his brother John, one of ten men settled by Macquarie at Bathurst in 1818; Superintendent at Bathurst (of Public Works and Convicts) from 24 September 1819 until his resignation in 1821; explored the interior and Blackman's Swamp (now Orange) was named after him; landholder at Bathurst.
