BRISBANE, Thomas (Sir). Governor

Major General Sir Thomas Brisbane, K.C.B., (1773-1860), was Governor of New South Wales from 1 December 1821 to 1 December 1825. He arrived in the Colony on 7 November 1821 with his wife Anna Maria (separate entry). He left the Colony late in November 1825.

Most of the letters indexed here are copies of letters sent by the Colonial Secretary, Frederick Goulburn, to the Governor, in response to a particular request from Brisbane. They reflect the Governor's residence at Parramatta but more particularly the poor relationship between the two men.
