LOANE, Rowland Walpole. Merchant and ship owner

Arrived in Hobart in 1809 on own ship "Union" and began trading as a merchant; in 1813 he went to Sydney on his brig "Campbell Macquarie" and returned to Van Diemen's Land in 1818 to find the Government had taken his land of which he was unable to prove ownership. He had other properties in Oatlands and Eastern Marshes and several houses in Hobart.
