HUNTER, John (Captain). Governor of New South Wales

John Hunter (1737-1821) first came to New South Wales in 1788 as second captain, under Governor Phillip, on the "Sirius", returning to England in 1792 following the loss of that vessel at Norfolk Island. He returned to the colony to serve as Governor from 11 September 1795 to 27 September 1800. He sailed home on the "Buffalo", arriving at Spithead on 24 May 1801.
