OVENS, John. Private Secretary to Governor Brisbane | |
Arrived as Lieutenant, 73rd Regiment in 1810 and was Acting Engineer, 1810-11. Returning to England in October 1811 he transferred to the 74th Regiment and became Aide-de-Camp to Brisbane during the Peninsular War. He returned to the Colony with Brisbane in 1821 and was made Acting Chief Engineer. In 1824 he was appointed Brisbane's Secretary and appointed Major in 57th regiment. He died December 1825. | |
