Sentenced to transportation for 14 years arriving in the "Baring" in September 1815; was conditionally pardoned on 1 January 1817; served in the Colonial marine service as mate on the "Estramina" & master of the "Lady Nelson", "Mary" & "Elizabeth Henrietta"; spent three years in the service of merchants trading between Sydney & East Indian ports; in 1821 received a 300 acre grant of land from Governor Macquarie at Norfolk Plains in Van Diemen's Land; continued his mercantile pursuits in Van Diemen's Land.
