Came free per "Elizabeth", 1816 with family including his brother-in-law and clerk Joshua John Moore and his father Thomas Wylde whom he recommended as Clerk of the Peace; from 1815 Deputy Judge Advocate of New South Wales and appointed to the Vice Admiralty Court; drafted the charter of the Bank of New South Wales and was active in its foundation in 1817; advocated the establishment of the Supreme Court in Van Diemen's Land; on 23 March 1824 became judge of the old Supreme Court until Francis Forbes opened the new court in May; involved in the Agricultural Association and was president of the Benevolent Society; received several land grants including land at Potts Point and Cabramatta; left for England in February 1825; knighted in 1827 and appointed Chief Justice at the Cape of Good Hope. | |
