BAYLY, Nicholas. Came free per "Barwell", 1798; lieutenant, New South Wales Corps
Received commission as Ensign in the New South Wales Corps, 1797 and arrived in the Colony as commander of the guard on the "Barwell"; he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1802 but tendered his resignation from the Corps in September 1803; he was appointed private secretary to Major Johnston and acting Provost Marshal in 1808 and Naval Officer in February 1809 but was dismissed from public office following Macquarie's arrival; he held the position of cashier and secretary of the Bank of New South Wales from September 1820 until his death in May 1823; he received grants at the Eastern Farms and Cabramatta, the latter property being known as Bayly Park.
