BEAMONT, John. Postmaster, Naval Officer and Provost Marshal, Van Diemen's Land
Arrived in Sydney in 1812 per "Minstrel", and proceeded to Hobart where he was appointed Postmaster General of Van Diemen's Land; he was Naval Officer from 1817 to 1820 and Provost Marshal from February 1819 until 1824 when the position was abolished; he was appointed Acting Sheriff until the arrival of Dudley Fereday in January 1825.
